When you can't travel.........

For all of you travelholics like myself quarantine was tough. After almost 6 weeks of being home I had had enough and so I planned a day trip...........
After going online and booking a day pass to Meridian State Park we loaded up the kyaks and headed out. I can honestly say I have never been quite so excited about a day trip to the lake. What was exciting were the sights we embraced along the way.

The drive through Central Texas to Meridian was beautiful. The courthouse square in Meridian is worth a stop. We opted to browse through two newly opened antique stores- I think we were the first customers since the closures began in March. It really was a breath of fresh air  after being home for so long.

Next Stop Meridian State Park.....

Meridian State Park is a great place to visit not far from Waco and Valley Mills. There is a small but pretty lake, perfect for kayaking and paddle boarding. The hikes are extensive and the scenery pretty. If you live in the area, it’s definitely worth a visit.

After enjoying the park we decided to head to the small town of Clifton, TX.

Clifton is just 30 minutes from Waco and one of the quaintest small towns in Texas that I have visited. We obviously visited when Texas was pretty much still under quarantine so the streets were empty. I cannot wait to return to see the town up and running. We did get to stop and eat lunch at a fantastic little deli which I highly recommend. The Corner Drug Cafe was a big hit ;their pimento cheese sandwich was to die for!!
Clifton is famous for it’s Norwegian roots which it is obviously proud of given the signs and Norwegian flags that adorn the main street of town. Certainly, a fun stop!

As Texas continues to open up, I’m excited about some summer travels. Europe is not in the picture this year and for the foreseeable future our travels will be closer to home but looking forward to more day trips and some local short trips soon……………..
Happy travels near and far!!! Stay safe and healthy!!
