As you may or may not have surmised by now I am a practicing catholic, when I travel I love to go to Mass is new churches .Whether you are catholic or not, the Painted Churches of Texas are most definitely worth discovering. These churches are not only quite stunning they rich in  history and are a real part of the Texas culture. The churches are also in some of the most beautiful countryside Texas has to offer. We explored them on one of my birthday trips in the spring. The bloom of the wildflowers along the highway bears no comparison……………….

Shiner

Shiner boasts one of the most beautiful painted churches in Texas, Saints Cyril and Methodius Church. We have visited many times as our family not only loves to see the church but of course Shiner Brewery is a must when we are in town.

Next Stop...........................Praha

St. Mary's, Praha
As we drove up to St. Mary’s at Praha I was so excited to see the inside of this beautiful church , much to my dismay it was closed as there was about to be a wedding ceremony. Still I was excited for the families coming together in Holy Sacrament and it meant I just have to plan a return trip…………..onwards to the next church.

St. Mary's Church, High Hill

The German –Czech community of High Hill dates back over 150 years. The railroad almost passed through but the townspeople opted against this and so the place has remained a beautiful, almost untouched area. This church is one of the most stunning I have seen. The ornate columns just astonishing. This church literally took my breath away.

Ammansville- St.John the Baptist Church

Ammansville is about as close to ghost town as I can imagine- there is little here but the drive it worth it to see this most stunning church. Each time I step into a painted church I am simply in awe of the outstanding craftsmanship and the sheer beauty that man has created awe inspired by God. St. John the Baptist church was built in 1890 and destroyed by a hurricane but rebuilt in 1909. As you can see the church is quite beautiful.

Dubina- St. Cyril and Methodius

In Dubina you will find another amazing painted church. This is the only one on our tour where you must view from the door there is no inside access. That being said the beauty of the church is still worth the trip. There are serviceson Sunday and a tour group can be arranged.

I absolutely loved our time touring these astounding feats of craftsmanship. The Painted Churches of Texas are a testament to real artistry and labors of love .If you ever get the chance to visit this area don’t miss these inspiring works of art.  But we still had celebrations to be had so if you are in the area and you are lucky enough to be there for the Schulenburg Sausage Festival make sure you head on over – we had a blast!!! This year the festival is April 14th,2018
