After some great stops along the way we headed to Key Largo for our last night in the Keys. Next Stop Hampton Inn, Key Largo.
Although this hotel had great reviews we just weren’t expecting this Hampton Inn to offer so much, if you are in Key Largo stay here.
One of the things we had hoped to do while on the Keys was kayak .Unfortunately because of Irma all the kayak businesses were in the process of re-establishing due to so much damage. Even the state parks were partially closed and there was not a kayak to be had. We were pleasantly surprise to find that the Hampton had its own private beach with kayaks for rent and so much more. We spent a few hours kayaking then lazing on the beach watching the manatee that came so very close and then we watched a most beautiful sunset before we headed out for dinner. The next morning we were totally entertained by the enormous lizards who clearly know the exact times for breakfast. This turned out to be a really great place to end our time on the Keys.
Next Stop the Everglades..........But First
Visiting the Everglades was on Gene’s list of things he must see. Taking an air boat was on my list. Our flight back to Texas wasn’t will 9 pm so being the road trippers we are we wanted to see just how much we could pack into our last day in Florida. Read on, I think you will agree we managed to pack a lot into one day. First stop was on my list -The Everglades Alligator Farm. If you are in the area this place is a lot of fun for everyone. Be sure to check out Groupon as they often have deals for this place. Next stop air boat ride ....check!!!
Whirlwind Everglades Stop...........
We were so close we could not stop for a short hour in the Everglades. It was beautiful but many areas were closed. We did take a short hike and we were able to check off Gene’s list at least for now. If we return to the area I know we will want to explore more.
www.versaillesrestaurant.com/So now we are really hungry .Our next stop turned out to be one of my favorite stops during the whole trip. We headed to Miami for lunch at the Versailles Cuban Bakery. This place is iconic and I can understand why. I was amazed at the sheer size and the amazing service. It was evident that this place serves good food. We arrived at 2:30 in the afternoon expecting an empty place due to the time – it was packed. The service was impeccable and the food just delicious. Highly recommend this place. Obviously after 50 years of serving the community of Miami this restaurant knows what it is doing. If you can go here you won’t regret it!
After a great meal what does one do in Miami…………….walk on the beach of course. Our next stop was the beach.
Our 4 day road trip was short and sweet and we loved every minute celebrating our 30 years of marriage. If you ever get the chance to explore this area do it! Even though we had a whirlwind trip we experience so much. #conchstrong
Leaving Miami behind but what a great way to celebrate 30 years together #lovemyman. Those who travel together stay together...............planning our next adventure one trip at a time !!
