Five Reasons to Visit Honduras.................

Honduras is off the beaten track. It is the least visited of the Central American counties. The travel advisories obviously have had an effect on the struggling tourist industry and competition is fierce. Here are some reasons to consider Honduras as a possible travel destination .

Value for Money

We spent three nights in a beautiful bed and breakfast in thePico Bonito National Park.La Villa de Soledad is a perfect retreat and at just $63 a night for room and breakfast it is a real bargain.

For something entirely different we moved to the Indura Beach Resort a Hilton property, which was quite spectacular and worthy of 5 starts. Two nights here at $118 plus tax was a steal.

Finally our last night was spent at the Intercontinental by the airport. Prices here were higher at $170 but the hotel was impressive with an incredible breakfast buffet and probably the best coffee I have ever tasted.

Inexpensive Tours

During our time in Honduras we drove from San Pedro Sula to La Villa De Soledad, approximately 3.5 hours. Our trip was longer due to protesters the day we arrived. Once there we opted to take a jungle jeep tour with Omega Tours which was situated just up the road. John, the host is also available with plenty of suggestions for tour in the area. Each tour runs approximately $60 per person. After three nights, we drove approximately 2 hours to Tele. From Tela I booked a tour through Viator which was an amazing deal at only $36 each through Garifuna Tours.

Go for the Local Beer...............

The local beer Salvavida- Live Saver- is really not a bad lager and at about  $1-2 dollars depending on the bar, it’s an inexpensive choice. First brewed in 1916, it has stood the test of time.

Ecotourism

Ok if the local beer doesn’t interest you maybe the ecotourism will. With over a dozen national parks, several spectacular mountain ranges and thick rainforest to choose from, ecotourism opportunities are abundant in Honduras. Explore the opportunites alone or take a white water river rafting excursion or hike adventure with Omega Tours .

Go for the beaches...................

Although we didn’t make it to the Bay Islands, we were stunned by the beauty of the beach at Indura and the secluded, serenity of the beach on Punta Sal.
