Although I was born and raised in England I take great pride in my “adopted” home, Texas. I am proud of the fact that after 21 years of military service we chose to make Belton, Texas our home. I have been planning to write a blog about the charms of certain Texas towns so, I decided that I would begin by illuminating my “adopted hometown” of Belton.
Whether you live near or far, Belton is a small town worth stopping for. It is situated 62 miles north of Austin and has lots to discover. So head this way and discover all that Belton has to offer. Ya'll won’t regret it!!! BBQ in Belton..................Of course any trip to Belton should begin with BBQ and there is no better place to begin than at the legendary Schoepf’s. On my dad’s first visit to the States in 1989 he was introduced to this great taste at this fine establishment -he was hooked, so were we. If you love BBQ you will love Schoepf’s and an added bonus is great live music in the summer months .These summer events are free and offer a wide variety of local artists is a great venue with amazing food. Down By The Creek........
In Belton “down by the creek “ takes on a whole new meaning. There is fun to be had here. Once a year Nolan Creek is stocked with trout so fishing is clearly an option, tubing and, generally just hanging out by the water is another option. In the summer you will find free concerts and best of all the area just above the creek has some fabulous food and drink establishments to explore. My grandson loves the frozen yogurt at The Weigh Station, we love the atmosphere and food at The Gin. If relaxation is what you need check out The Woodhouse Spa you won’t be disappointed by any of these choices.
And Now For Something Different
For something a little different check out the Belton Feed Store. This is a “must do” in the spring with little ones as the baby chicks will truly captivate them.
If you are in downtown Belton be sure to make a coffee stop at Arusha’s Coffee and Tea on East Street. The aroma is heavenly, the coffee robust and delicious and the atmosphere just plain cool. This little place has a lot to offer including live music and delectable treats. The building itself is old and inviting .This is a great place to just hang out with friends or relax and read the newspaper. Try it!!!
Belton Lake
In 1988 we moved to Central Texas .When we discover that Belton Lake was a short drive away we were thrilled. Both my husband and I fell in love with this lake. Belton Lake has so much to offer. There are a number of parks to discover, plenty of boating and fishing opportunities and generally fun to be had.
The Oldest Department Store in Texas
Another favorite of my family from the UK is Cochram Blair and Potts Department Store in downtown Belton. They love this place and whenever they visit a trip to Cochran Blair and Potts is a must. This store has been in existence since 1889 .It was recently remodeled in keeping with the history of the building. This is a wonderful place to visit, the merchandise is quality, the service is excellent and the building just beautiful.
Downtown Photo Op'sTexas means Texmex...Our Favorite Taco Stand. And Then There is Pizza........Fire Street Pizza! If you live in Belton, are visiting Belton or just thinking about pizza; this place is a must. All I can say is- try it! I love the My Shoroni , I love the great beer and I love the vibe………….oh yes, and the owner was a teacher so maybe I am a tad biased !! All the same you should check this place out. Great food, good service, amazing location with fabulous photo ops. …… and yes, live music........ What have you got to lose? Friday Night Fish Fry..............
So if you happen to be in town on the second Friday of the month check out the Fish Fry at Christ The King parish hall. This has been voted the best cat fish in town and people line up for all you can eat cat fish and all the trimmings. My husband is often one of the Knights on the fryer and they do cook up some pretty darn good cat fish so come on down and enjoy a small town fish fry. Tell Gene his wife sent you so he needs to be sure and make it good…………. Enjoy!!
In the Mood for Italian.........
There is no better place in Belton than Luigi’s. We love this place and have been coming here for over 11 years. We love the food, the friendly service and the fact we can bring our own wine. This is one of my family’s favorite places to get together for a family meal.
mangia tutti Bell County Museum..............
This is a great little museum to explore and it often has some excellent exhibits that are spotlighted. What I also love is the family oriented events that are free . I am pretty certain you will find something of interest. Our grandson loved exploring the museum in search of eggs at Easter. If you are downtown be sure to check this place out.
And for Classic Movies and Live Events......
The Beltonian in downtown Belton offers some great classic movies and events at very reasonable rates. The theatre recently screened Gone With the Wind and was sold out every night. This is a really great experience and a must try if you are visiting. Click on the images to get a link to the site and learn all about upcoming events and moviets.

The Beltonian is also available for Birthday Party Rentals, Corporate Meetings, and all manner of Special Events. They are a 100% Veteran Owned Business and are currently screening a free movie once a month with popcorn and fountain drinks for homeless veterans in conjunction with The Central Texas Health Care System. This a great local business that offers so much to the community of Belton. If you haven't already visited - you should! This really is a great Belton business!!!
